DIRECT SENSORY SYSTEMTM (DSS) – Fishermen are always wanting more “feel” from their rods. This is the only way of knowing what’s happening at the end of our line. We want to know when a fish gently mouths our bait without swallowing, when the tail brushes our line as the fish turns away, we want to feel if we are fishing a hard rocky bottom, or reef, or soft sand, or mud. We want to experience every thumping headshake, every screaming run, detect the feeling of one assist hook popping off under excessive pressure leaving only one more holding in the fish’s lip so that we can back off the drag and nurse the fish to boatside. Without good feel, we are fishing without one of the most important sensory feedback mechanisms which could be a deciding factor for a good or bad day out.
Temple Reef’s Direct Sensory SystemTM (DSS) is a groundbreaking and painstaking method of rod construction that amplifies blank sensitivity to enhance feel. Our hands are attuned to vibrations transmitted via the line, to the blank and ultimately the reel seat. With advances in low-stretch braided line and highly sensitive carbon fibre blanks, we have already come a long way. However, the weakest link in this chain has traditionally been at the reel seat where outdated construction techniques cause vibration loss and therefore information loss right where we hold the rod.
